The annual National Press Club of Australia Golf Day was once again held at Royal Canberra Golf Course. Dataflex was proud to be a major sponsor this year, sponsoring the Golf Clinic.

April can be a tricky month weather wise, however as usual at the NPC Golf Day the weather was fabulous!

The day hit off with a delicious roast lunch and registration in the Westbourne Room. The teams teed off and enjoyed all of the excitement provided on the course. There were hoola hops, gelato stops, closest to pin, delicious tasty morsels at the NPC tent, coordination skill tests, pro’s with tips and even exploding golf balls.

The fun wasn’t only on the course; the ladies at the clinic had a fantastic day, picking up all of the tips from Royal Canberra’s Pro golfers – Mark and Charles. The ladies were in form, there were many laughs, a few cold bottles of champagne and even a few good shots.

To finish up the fantastic day on the course, all were invited to The National Press Club for dinner and entertainment. The patron of the event is Senator Stephen Conroy, as always he said a few words on the successful day and also spoke a little about the charity supported by the event – Ovarian Cancer Research.

The entertainment of the night was long time friend of the NPC – Jean Kitson, OMG she had the crowd in stitches! Never have I heard such an intellectual, comical rendition on golf, politics, food and wine. What an emotional rollercoaster of laughs!

The day was a huge success and was enjoyed by all. Thank you to the National Press Club of Australia team for all their hard work. I look forward to the festivities next year!

Smaller, faster, greener computers for Penrith City Council

A number of Council employees are now using environmentally friendly computers thanks to an ongoing agreement with Dataflex, an authorised supplier of ‘Green’ Acer computers.

The new Acer Veriton L4610 computers use half the power of conventional desktop computers (135W compared to 300W of power) which not only reduces carbon emissions but also significantly cuts energy costs.

Dataflex has supplied Penrith City Council with 160 of these computers and will plant 160 trees to offset their carbon emissions. The trees are donated by Dataflex, in partnership with Greening Australia, and will be planted at Luddenham Primary School on Monday April 2 2012.
Penrith City Mayor Greg Davies said the agreement with Dataflex, which is now in its third year, continues to deliver benefits to Council, to staff and the environment.

“The new computers are much smaller and take up less room, which allows staff to work more comfortably at their desks. They are also significantly faster, increasing processing times and productivity across the organisation,” Councillor Davies said.
“Council is passionate about the environment and has adopted a number of sustainable business practices across the organisation. To further reduce our carbon footprint, Council will refurbish our old computers for distribution to Third World Countries or re-use the working spare parts.”

Dataflex and Western NSW Local Health Districts Partnership

Dataflex has become one of the leading providers of ICT products and services to Health Districts in NSW with the amalgamation of Health Services in NSW to create ‘X’ Local Health Districts. Western NSW Local Health Districts (WNSWLHD) have embraced the ‘one throat to choke’ approach and have contracted Dataflex to manage the procurement and management of their mobile and desktop computing fleet.

With an asset database spanning 3500 PCs and Notebooks, the challenge for the WNSWLHD to track and manage their ever growing database of assets was mitigated by the implementation of the Dataflex ecommerce solution. This online database permits the Health District an instantaneous understanding of the location and status of their PC and NB fleet. This means the Health District has complete control over procurement, asset management, refresh (also conducted through Dataflex) and disposal requirements at any given time.

Today, the Health District has augmented their procurement requirements to include Printers & Toner, Software, tapes, medical carts, Apple equipment and Anti-virus solutions, and continue to deepen their relationship with Dataflex as trusted advisor.
