The Broulee Open Women’s Crews showed great form heading into a George Bass year with both women’s crews from Canberra and locally based placing 1st and 3rd in a record field of 45 crews in the 2011 George’s River “Rooster Marathon.
Local Crew Louisa Bonner, Kerryn Hopkins, Nikky Kemp, Amy Morgan and Sweep/Coach Rob Pollock Headed the race crossing first in 1hr,7min and 57 seconds. Rowing into a head win they were only 1min 43sec off the race record and held off second placed Wanda by 40 seconds with Canberra based Broulee crew a further 2mins back in third.
12 women’s crews contested the race.
Canberra based crew were Pip Butt Kate Oates Vikki Fisher and Teresa Commichino who was last minute replacement for Laura Brisbane. Sweep/Coach Garry Pettigrove.
Great effort by the Canberra based crew who used Teresa as a last minute replacement and had not trained this season with the crew.
Both crews used the new boats built late last season thanks mainly to Dataflex, Eurobodalla Toyota and Moruya Hi Fi & Electrical.
Both squads are getting ready for the George Bass Marathon in Jan 2012 and Broulee is sure to be well placed by both these teams.
For Broulee it caps off a remarkable winning sequence in the Rooster River Run having a winning crew since 2007.
Broulee next event will be the Bondi to Watson Bay Marathon on October 22nd.
Big thanks to Tony Dale and Ken Murphy for helping training the crews and Roy Booker who is providing expert physical training of the Broulee Local squad.
